Conversion process from BT.1886 SDR to HLG
MIST's Color Management System enables color space conversions including up / down conversions for SDR and HDR. This article describes the steps to follow in order to convert BT.1886 SDR content to BT.2100 HLG.
According to the BT.2390-4 recommandations, MIST allows to map the SDR signal to HLG code values and adjust them to the HDR gain setting.
This article is for informational purpose only and the agreement of the content owner must be obtained first before performing any conversion on their content.
I. Setup the CMS
After having importing your media in the Timeline, access to the Composition Settings by right-clicking on the Viewport then click on Settings.
In the CMS tab:
- Choose MTCMS as color System.
- Select ITU-R BT.2020 as Working Color Space.
- Select ITU-R BT.2100 HLG as Transfer Response Curve.
II. Select the Mastering Display
From the Mastering Display tab, select ITU-R BT.2100 HLG 1000 nits from the Template list:
III. Setup the Source
From the Timeline module, go to the GRADE panel then SOURCE tab in order to setup your source information:
Select ITU-R BT.709 as color space and ITU-R BT.1886 as EOTF and set HDR gain on 203% .
You have completed the conversion process.
