Importing a media

Importing a media

On opening of a new project, MIST opens on an empty timeline.

MIST allows to import a large variety of media:
flat files, packages like DCP, IMF or iTunes, image sequences, PDF and XML files in sidecar, EDLs, camera magazines, etc.

Media are managed in the MEDIA tab of the COMMAND PANEL.

Media Tab

The Media tab is where the essences for a specific project are manually or automatically referenced from disks or a SAN.
The essences can be any type of video, audio, or subtitles files.

There is two ways for importing files for a project:

  • Drag & Drop from Windows file system

  • IMPORT function using the internal smart file browser (access from the Media bin using right-click, or using the IMPORT button of the bottom menu)

Import from the Media bin

MIST allows to import a large variety of media:
flat files, packages like DCP, IMF or iTunes, image sequences, PDF and XML files in sidecar, EDLs, camera magazines, etc.

To import a media:
  1. In the first column of the media bin right-click and select IMPORT MEDIA
  2. Browse the file system to the desired location, select the file and validate with OK

Drag and drop

Any kind of media can also be imported by a simple drag & drop from Windows file Explorer:

Import of image sequences

Image sequences like TIFF or DPX can be easily imported also using Drag & Drop from the file Explorer, or from the Media bin directly.

Warning
Because there is no information about frame rates in DPX or TIFF images, set the correct frame rate in the Composition Settings BEFORE importing the sequence

Drag&Drop image sequences

To import image sequences like DPX or TIFF drag & drop the first image of the sequence and the full sequence will be automatically imported:

Import image sequences using Import directory

You can also import the directory containing the images directly from the Media bin: right-click in the first column under the root folder and select IMPORT DIRECTORY:

Import of DCP package

MIST supports multiple CPLs DCPs.

To import a DCP:
  1. In the first column of the media bin right-click and select IMPORT PACKAGE
  2. Browse the file system to the root directory of the DCP and validate with OK
  3. From the Composition bin double click on the desired CPL to open it in the timeline
  4. Leave as is if you output through SDI on a DCI compliant display, or change the color management settings to MTCMS to visualize the DCP on MIST viewport and output on SDI on a non-DCI device.

Notes
You can also drag&drop from the file Explorer the root folder of the DCP

Import of IMF package

MIST supports multiple CPLs IMFs.

To import an IMF:
  1. In the first column of the media bin right-click and select IMPORT PACKAGE
  2. Browse the file system to the root directory of the IMF and validate with OK
  3. From the Composition bin double click on the desired CPL to open it in the timeline
